Now that summer is officially over, it is time for us to look forward to the autumn and winter seasons, and getting our homes cozy and warm. Winter is a wonderful time of year where we get to enjoy cosy nights in, thick blankets, and lots of comforting meals.

If you are looking for some different ways to prepare your home for the winter season, we have some great ideas for you today. Starting with the living room, add some elements of warmth and cosiness into your living space this week.

Consider insulation

The first thing you can do if looking for a way to vamp up your home for winter is to think about structural changes. Just like hiring a commercial roof replacement company for your office building, you might want to consider some roofing repairs and replacements before winter comes in full swing. The season can get pretty harsh and cold - and because of this insulating your home with a good quality roof is crucial. Don’t suffer with a freezing cold home, and instead enjoy a warm and inviting living space this winter.

Add extra throws

When decorating the house for winter it is so important to add extra layers of fabrics to keep people warm and lock in that heat. One easy way to achieve this is by adding throws and blankets to your chairs, sofa, and on your beds. These extra layers will help to lock in heat but will also create a lovely focal feature for the room if you choose a bold coloured design.

Light some candles

One of the easiest ways for you to make your living room warmer and more cozy during the winter is to bring in some tealights and scented jar candles to the room. There are lots of amazing scented candles you can bring into the home such as warm apple and cinnamon, mulled wine, or sugared fig. Choose a scent that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside and this can be a great way to add some coziness to the home.

Install app connected lighting

If you want to use technology to vamp up your living room setup this winter - install some app connected lights to the room. You can install these bulbs in a lamp, in your main light fitting, and even in string lights that can be placed above your tv. There are many ways to setup cosy and atmospheric lighting in your room and with a colour changing functionality it will allow you to set the mood with the click of a button.

Invest in forest green

Forest green is one of the best colours to add into your living room during winter. This colour is one well suited to the colder seasons but it also won’t look out of place in the warmer parts of the year. Paint a feature wall forest green and add some artwork or accessories and your living space will immediately feel more cosy and like a winter wonderland.
