Clearly one of the most anticipated kickoff bands at Treefort, Acid Tongue, took the stage at precisely 4:20. Whether or not that is by design, I will let you be the judge. But the band did claim at one point they were “so high, they even let the drummer sing.”

But the band is superb. Both guitarists are incredible, and just riffing off one another. “I just love playing with all of these guys,” lead singer and guitarist Guy Keltner told me. We’re just up here having fun.”

The other constant in the band is the drummer and visual artist Ian Cunningham. He’s a genius rhythm leader, a decent singer (see above), and clearly having fun. The band started in Seattle, and out of a desire to rise above what they felt was the stifling local music scene, produced a unique and soulful sound. Their lyrics? Well, you’ll have to listen for yourself, but their final number in the set, “The World Will F*@k You” isn’t atypical.

The band is rounded out with a wealth of talent, from a vibrant rhythm section including tambourines and cymbals, and even bongo drums. The bassist shows equal parts talent and enthusiasm. The multi-instrumental keyboardist wowed everyone with a saxophone solo that made my night.

This is a band that is a must-see. And a must-listen to if you don’t get a chance to see them perform.

They are a new favorite. And, I will tell you what will be added to my playlist when I’m writing (my regular job) tomorrow morning.
