With the Kentucky Derby just over a month away, it is about time to buy your new bonnets and ready yourself for the event. Here is a recipe for mint Juleps you can use to impress your friends.
A Mint Julep is a classic bourbon cocktail that is perfect for a hot summer day. Here is a recipe for making one:
Ingredients:
- 2 oz bourbon
- 1 tsp powdered sugar
- 4-6 fresh mint leaves
- Crushed ice
Directions:
1. Place 4-6 fresh mint leaves and 1 tsp of powdered sugar in a silver or copper Mint Julep cup or a tall glass.
2. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently muddle the mint and sugar together, releasing the mint's essential oils.
3. Fill the cup or glass with crushed ice. Pack it down lightly with a spoon or muddler, making sure the ice is level with the top of the cup or glass.
4. Pour 2 oz of bourbon over the ice.
5. Stir the mixture well, making sure the bourbon is evenly distributed throughout the cup or glass.
6. Top the mixture with more crushed ice until it forms a small mound above the rim of the cup or glass.
7. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.
Your Mint Julep is now ready to enjoy!
