Do you have an HR department? They’re a big part of what makes you successful. After all, if you want to build on your efficiency for the future, and turn your business into a well oiled machine that makes money, you need to know who to hire next.

You need talent and skill on your side, especially if this is your first venture into being your own boss. And of course, it can be a bit tricky to work out who you need to bring on board next, which is why we’ve listed three very important positions for you to think about below.

A Sales Manager

If you hire a sales manager, you’ll be on the fast track to building a large customer base. And for a company that’s just starting out, that’s an incredible feat to pull off on your own. But with an experienced sales manager on your side, you’ll have someone able to identify many sales opportunities, and then develop strategies to make use of them.

You’ll also have someone you can rely on to head up both the digital and in person side of the business. A sales manager is there to monitor all parts of the customer relations journey, and ensure good customer service. And if you’re worried about how your team is performing, the sales manager can help to push them onwards, and keep them motivated in the face of expansion.

An Engineer

Are you planning to expand in the near future? And as you do so, have you considered both your physical needs and your IT infrastructure needs? Because in order to manage both, you’re going to need a qualified engineer on your side.

After all, a sales manager can do a lot to both research and plan out how you’ll capitalize on your initial success, but someone like an industrial construction engineer will actually make that happen. Not only that, but any engineer you hire could make for a great supervisor or manager level position as well. Engineers tend to be knowledgeable, natural communicators, and that’s the kind of skill you need right at the top.

A Development Manager

Whatever the sales manager can’t do, the business development manager picks up on! And while the positions might sound similar, a development manager is there to manage and monitor all elements of outreach. They don’t just focus on the customer, but the business itself, as well as ways to collaborate with other businesses/investors in turn.

A development manager will always have a solid network to make use of. They’ll also be able to work hand in hand with the engineer to oversee expansion and growth work. Most of all, they’ll be able to monitor profit lines, and see where you’re going wrong in meeting them.

A lot of important positions still need filling, and if you ignore them for long enough, you’ll fail before you even get started. Make sure you’re hiring right for your small business’ future.
