When was the last time you called in sick for work? It’s great to get some time off, but there’s one problem that often comes with taking sick days; you’ll feel out of the loop when you return. Let’s face it, while getting to stay at home can be a great thing (especially if you’re recovering from an illness) you do feel out of the loop when you finally get back to work. Someone may have taken your position or you might be assigned different work due to your absence.

Whenever something comes between us an our work, it can feel frustrating to try and get back into the swing of things. To ensure that nothing comes between you and your work so you can remain productive, here are a few tips to keep in mind.

Dealing With Distractions

Distractions in the workplace are frustratingly common. It doesn’t matter if you’re working at a desk in your office or at home in your laptop—something can distract you. Make sure you stay focused during work and try to eliminate as many distractions as possible. Whether it’s plugging in some earphones to play some music and drown out background noise, or moving away from colleagues so you’re less inclined to speak to them, you need to find your own way of dealing with distractions in the workplace so that it doesn’t get between you and your work.

Keep Yourself Fit for Work

No matter the situation, you need to ensure that you’re fit for work. This is especially important if you’ve suffered an accident at work and you’re neglecting to report it because you want to keep working. It’s important to report incidents at work and to seek a free personal injury consultation to claim not only compensation but to make your colleagues aware of the danger as well. The more people that are aware of the issues in your workplace, the more pressure there will be to get them fixed.

Alternate Commuting Routes

No one likes to take a longer bus just to get to work, but sometimes it’s unavoidable especially if certain public transport lines are down or if your car suddenly stops working. It’s important to plan multiple routes to work so that, in the event something happens with your regular transportation, you have the ability to keep working. Sometimes alternate routes can take a little longer, but it’s worth learning different ways to get to the office.

Learn to Love Your Colleagues

Your colleagues are going to be a huge part of your life in a new office. Unfortunately, until you get to know them they’re just going to be blank silhouettes that need filling. Interact with your colleagues on a regular basis to ensure that you can comminute together on projects. Teamwork is one of the biggest bottlenecks in the office because not everyone can work together in harmony. Some people will always have a grudge and others will continuously have problems, but the fewer the problems, the more productive your work will be.
